An estimated 6000 diggers arrived each week seeking their fortune, this brought migrants from all over the world to Victoria and between 1851 to 1896 the Victorian Mines Department reported that a total of 61,034,682 oz (1,898,391kg) of gold was mined in Victoria
This part of our history has shaped Ballarat into what it is today, a thriving town with a population of over 115,000.
